Job Details:
* Work 12-hour shifts with an every other weekend rotation (Saturday/Sunday)
* No on-call responsibilities
* Overtime is available
* Holiday rotation expected
* Modified self-scheduling - sign up for preferred shifts; manager will review and adjust to ensure coverage
* Float between adult and pediatric units as needed
* 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience required; pediatric behavioral health experience preferred
* First-time travelers are accepted
* Care for both voluntary and involuntary admissions across all age groups (pediatric ages 5-18 and adults 18+/geriatric)
* Pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
* Adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, MDD, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, anxiety, and occasional substance use disorder/detox patients on CIWA (must be medically cleared)
* Patient ratios: Day 1:5-6; Night 1:13 with resource and nursing support
* Skills required include de-escalation, experience with physical restraints (chemical restraints are NOT used), medication passes, ability to run groups, and documentation
* May have the opportunity to act as charge nurse but not required
* Charting system: Cerner; Pyxis for medication management
* Required certifications: BLS, Maine State License; MOAB certification obtained on site during orientation
* Orientation: First week (Monday-Friday) on day shift; second week on contracted shift schedule
* Scrub color: Any solid color; must be professional
* Free parking available
* Heavy snow conditions expected during winter months
Facility:
This is a freestanding acute inpatient behavioral health facility with 94 beds, including 50 pediatric beds and 44 adult beds. All patients are medically cleared prior to admission through a contracted emergency department located five minutes away. The facility provides traditional medical and psychiatric care alongside specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens. A robust support team is available including a nurse practitioner on site until 4:00 PM and on call overnight, daily psychiatrist rounds, occupational therapists seven days a week, psych techs, and a contracted phlebotomist. Seclusion rooms are available when necessary, and a dedicated MOAB educator and trainer is on site to support staff with de-escalation training and scenario-based practice every other week.
