RN - Medical Surgical

Job Details:

* 2 years of experience required in specialty; first-time travelers may be considered with several years of experience caring for post-op surgical patients, especially Orthopedics and Gastrointestinal surgeries
* Work on a busy, fast-paced 23-bed medical surgical unit caring for orthopedic, spine, general surgery, and bariatric patients
* Typically receives 10-20 post-op patients per day
* Unit includes cardiac and O2 monitoring capability
* Patient ratios of 5:1 for days, nights, and weekends
* Float to like units as required
* Weekend coverage required
* Self-scheduling with manager final approval; block scheduling not guaranteed
* Must have experience with wound vacs and solid orthopedic experience including familiarity with orthopedic equipment
* Must be comfortable with multiple admissions and discharges per shift due to high turnover rate
* Strong attention to detail required
* Caring for adult and geriatric patient populations
* Patient diagnoses include bariatrics, orthopedics, general surgery, GYN surgery, and spine post-op, as well as overflow medicine patients
* Required certifications: BLS
* Required skills include: accessing/managing ports, BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, central line care/management, feeding tube care and management, heparin protocols, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, isolation precautions/PPE, telemetry, total joint replacement, tracheostomy care/management, wound care/wound vac, and more
* Compliance requirements include: EKG onboarding exam, Med/Surg Tele competency exam, Med/Surg Tele skills exam, math exam, and Med/Pharmacology exam
* Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted at this facility

This facility is a busy medical surgical unit with 34 beds providing specialized care for post-operative and medical patients. The unit offers comprehensive interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, transportation, and unit secretary services. The facility is equipped to handle cardiac monitoring and oxygen management, and maintains high standards for patient care across a diverse range of surgical specialties.
