RN - Stepdown/PCU/Telemetry
Job Details:
* Minimum 2 years of experience required; first-time travelers not accepted
* Travel experience required prior to submission
* Patient population includes adults and geriatrics
* Patient ratios: 1:5 on days and nights, 1:6 on weekends; 32-bed unit
* Work setting includes Overflow IMCU with arrhythmia management, cardioversion, cardiac CHF, chest pain, renal, pulmonary (COPD, pulmonary edema), PE, DVT, cardiac arrhythmias (stable A-Fib, SVT, bradycardia), surgical cases (cholecystectomy, appendectomies, chest tubes, biliary drains), occasional vascular patients, post cardiac cath, TR bands, DKA, and occasional ortho or CVA patient overflow
* HARD STOP: Must have prior experience managing the following continuous IV medications:
- Cardiac drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Milrinone, Nitroglycerin
- Diuretics: Bumex, Lasix
- Anticoagulants: Aggrastat, Argatroban, Heparin
- Insulin drips
* Basic arrhythmia knowledge, hemodynamic monitoring, and care of patients post-PCI required
* Required skills include: cardiac telemetry, central line care/management, blood product administration, PICC line management, heparin protocols, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, titration of insulin drips, TR band management, pre/post cardiac cath care, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, and use of rapid response/code teams
* Special equipment experience required: High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), BiPAP/CPAP management (RT available 24/7)
* Telemetry competency exam required
* Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
* Georgia or Compact nursing license required at time of submission
* Charting systems: Epic (preferred), Pyxis, SBAR
* Scrub color: Navy Blue
* Scheduling type: Variable; typically every other weekend; permanent staff are scheduled first and travelers fill in the gaps (approximately 6 weekend shifts per contract)
* Floating required to like units within facility and scope of practice as needed
* Call is rare; response time is 2 hours; travelers typically do not manage Precedex
* Maximum of 7 days of pre-approved time off per contract; all RTO must be finalized at time of submission
* Holiday coverage expected: if 1-2 major holidays fall during assignment, traveler is expected to work all of them; if 3 major holidays fall during assignment, traveler is expected to work 2
* Major holidays include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
* Orientation hours: 36 hours; no RTO permitted during orientation week
* Interdisciplinary support available: respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation
* Previous charge experience preferred
