Phlebotomist - Specimen Processor

Job Details:

* 13-week contract assignment
* Day shift from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM
* Expected 40 hours per week
* No on-call responsibilities
* No guaranteed weekly hours
* Perform and evaluate semi-technical laboratory procedures on patient specimens, test materials/reagents, blood products, and quality control materials
* Work in various areas of clinical and anatomic pathology laboratories
* Register patients, order tests, collect samples, and assess acceptability of samples for testing
* Process samples for testing including centrifugation, aliquoting, storage, and shipping
* Prepare slides, load instruments, and report results in support of clinical testing
* May perform waived and point-of-care testing
* Review patient information and test orders on paper requisitions and computerized test requests
* Operate departmental computer programs to receive and order laboratory tests appropriately
* Reconcile outstanding test orders and follow up on specimens with incomplete information or questionable test orders
* Verify complete courier delivery and enter specimen tracking, laboratory data, and patient information in computer
* Verify and monitor all specimens received for accurate packaging, labeling, and correct specimen collection requirements
* Accurately label and process specimens for laboratory testing while ensuring preservation of sample integrity
* Process and prepare referral specimens for shipping to reference laboratories
* Maintain computerized records and troubleshoot outstanding specimens
* Maintain stock of commonly used supplies and perform routine inspections of supply levels
* Routinely use laboratory equipment and instruments, performing troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance as needed
* Assist in setup and validation of new equipment
* Participate in quality activities and quality improvement initiatives
* Maintain accurate and complete documentation on processes, procedures, patient information, and equipment maintenance
* Observe universal precautions, barrier protection methods, and infection control procedures when working with body fluids
* May perform venipuncture as required
* EPIC experience required
* Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience
* No local candidates within 50 miles
* Parking available at $50 per month
