Job Details:

* ASAP start needed
* Must be willing to float between pediatric and adult units as needed
* Minimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience required
* Pediatric behavioral health experience preferred
* First-time travelers accepted
* Patient population includes both voluntary and involuntary admissions
* Pediatric unit serves patients ages 5-18; adult unit serves patients ages 18 and older through geriatric
* Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
* Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety
* Occasionally may see substance use disorder or detoxing patients on CIWA who are medically cleared
* Will provide traditional medical and psychiatric care in addition to specialized therapies including pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens
* Patient ratios: RN day shift 1:5-6; RN night shift 1:13 with resource and nursing support
* Skills required include de-escalation experience, experience with physical restraints (chemical restraints are not used), medication passes, ability to run groups, and documentation
* May have opportunity to act as charge nurse but not required
* Charting system: Cerner
* Equipment: Pyxis
* Orientation: first week Monday through Friday on day shift; second week on 12-hour shifts as scheduled
* Weekend rotation: every other weekend including Saturday and Sunday
* Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
* No on-call requirements
* Overtime is available
* Holiday rotation expected
* Modified self-scheduling: travelers sign up for preferred shifts; manager reviews and adjusts to ensure coverage
* Scrub color: any solid color; must be professional
* Free parking available
* Heavy snow conditions expected during winter months
* Required certifications: BLS, Maine State License
* MOAB certification obtained on site during orientation

Facility:

This is a freestanding acute inpatient behavioral health facility with 94 beds, including 50 pediatric beds and 44 adult beds. The facility operates with a contracted emergency department located five minutes away, and all patients are medically cleared prior to admission. The facility maintains a locked environment and utilizes seclusion rooms when necessary, while offering a comprehensive and supportive care environment. Staff support includes a director of nursing, nurse manager, house administrator, charge nurses, psychiatric technicians, a contracted phlebotomist, nurse practitioners, a psychiatrist, and an occupational therapist available seven days per week. Security is on site, and all clinical staff across units respond to patient escalations. A dedicated MOAB educator and trainer is on site, with scenario-based de-escalation training offered every other week.
