Opportunity:
RN - VMU (Visual Monitor Unit)
Job Details:
* 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
* 4 total weekend shifts per 4 weeks required, with every 3rd weekend worked
* Holidays worked based on unit coverage in permanent staff rotation
* 1:4 patient ratios
* 14-bed Visual Monitor Unit (VMU) specializing in medical/surgical telemetry patients with behavioral health components
* Common patient diagnoses include secondary psychiatric diagnoses, confused patients, dementia, and low cognitive ability
* Telemetry monitoring required; no ventilator management required
* May float to ED psych holds and possibly to medical/surgical floors
* 2-shift floor-specific orientation provided
* Charting system: Cerner EMR
* Psych MD on unit; SWAT RN available for IV support; RT and Pharmacy available 24/7
* Behavioral health techs and security video monitoring on unit
* Rare physical restraints used; chemical restraints and video monitoring by security standard practice
* Average patient length of stay is 4 days
* Required certifications: ACLS and BLS
* Must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (2 attempts allowed)
* Day 1 pass/fail SIMs Lab required for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes - sterile field competency is critical
* Must have Level 1 or Level 2 Trauma experience (minimum 18+ months of experience considered)
* First-time travelers welcome
* Must have own vehicle
* Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings
* Men must be clean shaven for fit test
* Navy scrubs required; panic buttons provided
* BSN not required

This acute care facility is a Level 1 Trauma center offering comprehensive inpatient services, including a specialized Visual Monitor Unit (VMU) that serves as a medical/surgical telemetry unit for patients who may also have a behavioral health component requiring additional safety monitoring. The facility provides 24/7 respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and radiology support, and utilizes Cerner as its electronic medical records system. The organization maintains high clinical standards, with dedicated simulation lab training and a strong emphasis on patient safety and sterile field competency.
