Job Details:

* Work 12-hour shifts with a weekend rotation every other Saturday and Sunday
* Must be willing to float between pediatric and adult units as needed
* Orientation consists of first week Monday through Friday on day shift, followed by second week on contracted shift schedule
* Modified self-scheduling - travelers sign up for preferred shifts subject to manager review and adjustment
* Overtime is available
* Holiday rotation required
* No on-call requirements
* Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
* Minimum 1 year of Behavioral Health nursing experience required; pediatric behavioral health experience preferred
* First-time travelers accepted
* Patient ratios: Days 1:5-6; Nights 1:13 with resource support
* Care for pediatric patients ages 5-18 and adult patients ages 18 and older including geriatric
* Common pediatric diagnoses include Eating Disorders, Depression, Suicidal Ideation, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Gender Dysphoria
* Common adult diagnoses include Schizophrenia, Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Eating Disorders, Suicidal Ideation, and Anxiety
* May occasionally see Substance Use Disorder or detoxing patients on CIWA protocol (medically cleared)
* Required skills include de-escalation experience, physical restraint experience (chemical restraints are not used), medication passes, ability to run groups, and documentation
* May have the opportunity to act as Charge Nurse, though not required
* Charting system: Cerner; medication dispensing: Pyxis
* Required certifications: BLS and Maine State License; MOAB certification obtained on-site during orientation
* Scrub color: any solid color; must be professional
* Free parking available
* Heavy snow conditions expected during winter months

Facility:

This free-standing acute inpatient behavioral health facility operates 94 beds, including 50 pediatric and 44 adult beds. The facility accepts both voluntary and involuntary admissions, with all patients arriving medically cleared from a contracted emergency department located five minutes away. The facility provides traditional medical and psychiatric care alongside specialized therapies including pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens. A robust support team is available including a Nurse Manager, House Administrator, Charge Nurses, Psych Techs, a contracted Phlebotomist, Nurse Practitioners, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, and on-site Security. The facility maintains a strong culture of safety with a dedicated MOAB Educator and Trainer on site, scenario-based de-escalation training every other week, and a structured code response system.
