RN - Med Surg/Tele

Job Details:

* Work 12-hour night shifts starting at 7:00 PM
* Every other weekend required, covering both Saturday and Sunday
* Holiday rotation shared with core staff
* No on-call or standby requirements
* Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-6 nights; LPNs available with virtual admission and discharge nurses to assist
* Primary care nursing model frequently used - must be comfortable with this model
* Float to like units only; if floated to higher acuity, will work as a helper and not carry a patient load
* Scrub color required: black
* Required certifications: BLS (AHA), NIHSS
* EPIC experience required
* Must have total joint experience including total hips and knees
* Must have understanding of PCA pumps, reversal drugs (Narcan), and sepsis management
* Experience with TPN/Lipids and narcotic usage required
* Minimum 1 year of surgical experience required
* Must be able to interpret telemetry strips; Draeger telemetry monitors used
* Required to titrate Heparin drips per protocol
* Common diagnoses include neuro cases (laminectomy, cervical fusion), ostomies, hernia repair, joint replacements, fem pop bypass, dialysis, BKA/AKA, sepsis, and urgent OR cases
* RT manages CPAP, Airvo, and BiPAP equipment on unit
* Scheduling is done 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling is not guaranteed
* Cancellation policy: 3 shifts per 13-week or longer contract; 2 shifts per 12-week or shorter contract
* Fast-paced environment with 8-12 surgical admissions per day possible

This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center operating a 48-bed Med Surg/Telemetry inpatient surgical unit across two buildings. The unit specializes in post-surgical care and complex medical cases, supported by telemetry monitoring technicians, nurse aides, and respiratory therapy staff. The facility is currently undergoing an EPIC system conversion and maintains a strong focus on collaborative, high-quality patient care.
