RN - Stepdown

Job Details:

* Work 12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 6:45 AM
* Every other weekend requirement
* Cancellation policy: 12 hours every 2 weeks
* 2 years of stepdown experience in an acute care setting required
* Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NIHSS preferred
* Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5 with nurse aide support at 1:10
* 44-bed unit with 8 semiprivate rooms (16 beds)
* Unit consists of cardiac stepdown: 4A focuses on cardiothoracic and cardiovascular surgery; 4B focuses on smaller procedures, drips, and CHF patients
* Must read and interpret telemetry strips (Phillips)
* Manage drips including Cardizem (titrated), amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine renal dose, Lasix, Bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vaprisol
* Experience with BiPap, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high-flow oxygen required; no full vents
* Common diagnoses and patient types include post-op CABG, cardiovascular surgeries, fem pops, arteriograms, thoracotomy, VATS, EVAR, AAA repairs, carotid endarterectomies, stents, pacemakers, ablations, AICD, CHF, AFib with RVR, CABG with pacer wires, adenosine cardioversions, and chest tubes
* Ability to pull pacer wires preferred; orientation provided if unable
* Fast room turnover with average census of 32-38 patients; may discharge and admit 12-16 patients in a single shift on busy days
* May float to ICU; will take stepdown-level patients unless ICU experience is noted on contract
* 3-shift floor-specific orientation provided
* Hospitalist/intensivist in house 24/7; PICC team, RT 24/7, and pharmacy 24/7 available
* Charting system: MEDITECH
* Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
* Must be flexible to work holidays and days surrounding holidays
* Dress code: Natural colored hair required, no fake nails or shellac, no facial piercings, no visible tattoos
* Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility as verified by driver's license address

The unit is supported by around-the-clock hospitalist and intensivist coverage, a dedicated PICC team, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and 24/7 pharmacy services. The facility maintains a high standard of patient care with a strong focus on cardiovascular surgery recovery and cardiac disease management.
