Opportunity:
RN - Medical/Surgical Step-Down
Job Details:
* Work on a 40-bed Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit focused on ED decompression and enhanced patient throughput
* Patient ratios of 1:5 for Step-Down and 1:6 for Med/Surg, with 1:5 ratio if combined, on both day and night shifts
* Every other weekend required, no on-call responsibilities, assistance with holidays expected
* Expected to float to other units within skill set
* Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg, Telemetry (remote), and Step-Down (PCU) level experience preferred
* Responsible for completing Admission Assessments, Medication Reconciliation, and initiating acute care orders for patients admitted from the ED
* Care for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses requiring a well-rounded clinical background
* Charge Nurse experience or willingness to consider is appreciated
* Unit staffing includes a free charge nurse goal and typically 1-2 CNAs based on volume
* Documentation system: Cerner
* Equipment used: Baxter IV pumps
* Dress code: Navy blue/white or combination of the two colors; no t-shirts; appropriate navy or white jacket/sweater if needed
* Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
* Additional certifications preferred but not required

This facility operates a specialized Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit with a primary focus on receiving admitted patients from the emergency department, reducing overall length of stay, and enhancing the patient and family experience. The unit is supported by a dedicated team including charge nurses and CNAs, and offers additional opportunities within the CMU Telemetry Unit and as ED Transporters.
