Opportunity:
PCT - Psychiatric (Adult)
Job Details:
* Work in a 26-bed adult psychiatric unit serving patients 18 and older
* PCT shifts available: Days 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Evenings 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, Nights 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM
* Every other weekend required
* May be asked to participate in holiday rotation with at least 2-3 holidays per year
* No on-call or standby requirement; in emergencies may be asked to pick up a shift
* PCT ratio: 5 PCTs on Days, 5 PCTs on Evenings, 3 PCTs on Nights
* PCT job duties include safety checks, room checks, vitals, weights on Saturdays, ADLs, direct patient observation, rounding every 15 minutes, phlebotomy (prior experience required), blood glucose checks, 1:1 observations, and assisting nursing staff as needed
* Common patient diagnoses include schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, substance abuse, depression, borderline personality disorder, and intellectually challenged populations
* No detox or rehab patients on this unit; those patients go to specialized units
* No IV administration on this unit; may be asked to perform IM injections and phlebotomy
* De-escalation techniques (CPI) used to avoid physical restraints; if needed, 4-point leather restraints are used
* Travelers are first to float; may float to adolescent or adult psychiatric units
* Unit-specific orientation is 2-4 days with a preceptor, including orientation to multiple units for floating purposes
* Block scheduling is not guaranteed; excessive call-ins are taken seriously and could lead to termination
* Charting system: Allscripts
* Scrub color: Maroon Red
* Must have a minimum of 1 year of psychiatric experience
* Required certifications: BLS (AHA), PCT Certification, and De-escalation Training
