Opportunity:

RN - Surgical Day Care / Pre-Admission Testing

Job Details:

* Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions, plans of care, and patient goals
* Provide patient care based on standards of care, practice protocols, and established policies and procedures
* Perform pre-admission testing on Surgical Day Care patients
* Perform nursing assessments and coordinate ancillary testing for day surgery patients including blood draws and EKGs
* Review pre-operative orders and consult with surgeons and/or anesthesiologists to ensure appropriate tests are ordered
* Review test results and communicate abnormalities to the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and/or primary physician prior to surgery
* Review preoperative charts for completeness, verifying all paperwork including consent forms, H&P, and lab results
* Safely administer medications and intravenous therapy in accordance with physician orders, protocols, and policies
* Assess and reassess patient pain levels utilizing numerical pain scale and document patient responses to medication
* Complete medication reconciliation documentation for use by the Attending MD
* Initiate and document post-operative phone calls to Surgical Day Care patients
* Provide emotional support to patients undergoing changes in body image and/or activity level due to surgery
* Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others appropriately
* Minimum one year of acute care nursing experience required
* Prior Surgical Day Care, Pre-Admission Testing, Endoscopy, or OR experience preferred
* Current Massachusetts RN license required
* Current ACLS and PALS certifications required
* IV certification preferred
* Proficiency in peripheral IV insertion and nursing assessment required
* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
