Opportunity:

RN - 2N Medsurg and Cardiac Observation

Job Details:

* 12-hour shifts available for both days (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) and nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
* Clock in no sooner than 6:53 AM or 6:53 PM
* Every-other-weekend requirement; weekend shifts for nights are Friday/Saturday/Sunday and days are Saturday/Sunday
* All time off requests must be submitted upfront and included in the contract; requests after this point must be approved by the facility
* Average patient ratio of 1:6 on a 21-bed unit typically staffed for 18
* Common diagnoses include pre/post cath, chest pain rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, pacers, and arrhythmias, as well as general MedSurg diagnoses
* RNs must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips and have experience with set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone
* Experience with TR Bands is a strong plus
* Only set-rate drips administered; no titration required; occasional drips include Bumex and Lasix
* BiPAP and CPAP available for supportive therapy only; high-flow oxygen not available on this unit
* Telemonitor technicians located on the 3rd floor; RNs must be able to read and interpret strips with a unit monitor available for real-time viewing
* Charge nurse present on the unit 24/7; day charge may take patients and night charge always takes patients
* Nurse aides available with a ratio of approximately 1:10 to 1:14-15 depending on census; duties include EKGs, bladder scans, fingerstick blood sugars, ADLs, and all vitals
* Travelers are typically the first to float and may be floated anywhere in the hospital including ICU and stepdown, but will only be assigned patients within their skillset
* Scrub color required is Royal Blue; scrub jackets are optional but must be an actual scrub jacket - no hoodies or sweat-jackets permitted
* Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training followed by 1 day of floor shadowing with a preceptor
* Unit is very busy and fast-paced with up to 6 discharges and 6+ admissions per day
* Charting system: EPIC
* Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA)
* Valid driver's license copy required at time of submittal
