Job Details:
* Float between pediatric and adult behavioral health units as needed
* Pediatric unit serves patients ages 5-18; adult unit serves patients ages 18 and older including geriatric
* Freestanding acute inpatient facility with a contracted emergency room located 5 minutes away
* All patients are medically cleared prior to admission - not typical to have lines, drains, or tubes
* Involuntary and voluntary admissions accepted
* Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
* Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety
* Occasionally will see substance use disorder or detoxing patients on CIWA protocol
* Facility provides traditional medical and psychiatric care as well as specialized therapies including pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens
* Patient ratios: Day shift 1:5-6; Night shift 1:13 with resource and nursing support
* Day shift orientation during first week (Monday through Friday); second week on assigned 12-hour shifts
* Weekend rotation every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
* No on-call requirements
* Overtime is available
* Holiday rotation expected
* Modified self-scheduling - travelers sign up for preferred shifts subject to manager review and adjustment
* Required skills include de-escalation experience, experience with physical restraints (chemical restraints are not used), medication administration, ability to run groups, and documentation
* May have opportunity to serve as charge nurse but not required
* Charting system: Cerner
* Medication system: Pyxis
* Scrub color: any solid color; must be professional
* Free parking available
* Heavy snow conditions expected during winter months
* Minimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience required
* Pediatric behavioral health experience preferred
* Required certifications: BLS, Maine State License
* MOAB certification obtained on site during orientation
Facility:
This freestanding acute inpatient behavioral health facility operates 94 beds across pediatric and adult units, providing comprehensive psychiatric care to a diverse patient population. The facility offers a multidisciplinary support team including nursing management, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, psych techs, and security personnel. The organization is committed to staff development through scenario-based training, regular debriefing, and on-site MOAB education and training resources.
