RN - Orthopedics & Spine Specialty
Job Details:
* Work 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule (day shift: 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM or night shift: 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM)
* Rotate through every 3rd weekend, sometimes every other weekend in cases of leave of absence
* Patient ratios of 5-6:1
* Work on a 36-bed all private room unit specializing in orthopedic injury, neurological conditions including stroke and head injuries, and traumas
* Day shift staffing includes 1 Charge RN, 8 RNs, 3 PCTs, and 1 Unit Clerk; Night shift includes 1 Charge RN, 8 RNs, and 3 PCTs
* Utilize equipment including traction, external fixators, halos, walkers, gait belts, bed alarms, continuous pulse ox, and remote telemetry monitoring
* Use Meditech EMR system
* Utilize Mobile Heartbeat (iMobile) program on iPhone 7 for team communication, patient privacy protection, lab result visualization, and coordination with physical therapy, occupational therapy, radiology, and respiratory teams
* Perform wound care and dressing changes
* Acute care hospital experience on Med/Surg or Telemetry type units required
* Kansas nursing license required
* BLS certification required
* NIH certification preferred
* Scrub color: Royal Blue

This facility is a busy Level 2 trauma center featuring two freestanding emergency departments that feed into the orthopedics and spine specialty unit. The unit recently expanded from 26 beds to 36 beds due to growing patient volume and operates as a fast-paced med/surg acuity unit. The organization has achieved 0% first-year RN turnover and 7% total RN turnover, significantly below the national average of 17%, reflecting a strong commitment to staff engagement and retention.
