PCT - Psychiatric Adult

Job Details:

* Work in a 26-bed adult psychiatric unit providing direct patient care
* Shift options available: Days 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Evenings 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM, Nights 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM
* Nurse to patient ratio of 1:6-7
* Every other weekend requirement
* Holiday requirement of at least 2-3 holidays per year with winter holidays being high demand
* Potential standby/call requirement during evenings in emergency situations
* Travelers are first to float to adult and children psych units, psych emergency/crisis area, detox, and rehab units
* 3-day unit-specific orientation with additional orientation to float units provided
* Travelers must remain flexible with scheduling to fill gaps; block scheduling is not guaranteed
* Excessive call-ins are taken seriously and may result in termination
* Patient population includes adults 18+ with diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, drug-induced psychosis, MDD, and substance abuse
* PCT duties include safety checks, room checks, vitals, weights on Saturdays, ADLs, direct patient observation, rounding every 15 minutes, phlebotomy (prior experience required), blood glucose checks, EKGs, 1:1 patient observations, and assisting nursing staff as needed
* Physical restraints used on unit include 4-point leather restraints (transitioning to plastic); rare seclusion; restraint procedures covered during orientation
* No IV administration required on this unit
* No telemetry monitoring on this unit
* Home CPAP and BiPAP used rarely for sleep only
* Charting system: Allscripts
* Scrub color: Maroon Red
* Minimum 1 year of psychiatric experience required; first-time travelers accepted
* Required certifications: BLS (AHA), Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) via NHA, De-escalation Training
* BSN not required
* Valid state license required for submission

The unit is staffed 24 hours a day with charge nurses and assistant nursing care coordinators overseeing patient care.
