Job Details:
* Position will float between Bryan and College Station campus locations (16 minutes apart)
* Varied shift times with 1100-1300 start times
* Every other weekend requirement
* Rotate holiday shifts with core staff, including 1 major holiday
* No on-call or standby requirement
* First to float; may float to College Station as needed in a helping hands capacity without a patient assignment
* Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: general acute care 1:3-4, Level I traumas 1:1 or 2:1, TNK 1:1 for first hour, vertical care 1:6-8
* 30 beds with 2 trauma bays and 24 acute beds
* Average of 135 patients treated daily
* Care for a wide range of patients including chest pain, N&V, fever, pediatric URI symptoms, geriatric altered mental status, and trauma cases including GSWs, MVAs, and ground level falls
* Administer common drips including Diltiazem, Cardene, Nitro, Propofol, Fentanyl, and Levophed
* Monitor own telemetry strips
* RNs responsible for splitting breathing treatments with respiratory therapy
* May be asked to precept as needed
* Must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam (83% passing score) before signing contract, with three attempts allowed
* Minimum 2 years of experience required in a facility with similar patient volume, trauma level, and size
* Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS
* Charting systems: MEDITECH, PulseCheck, and Picis
* Scrub color: Navy; undershirts must be navy; scrub jackets optional but must be navy if worn
* 3-shift orientation in the ER
* BSN not required
Facility:
This acute care facility operates as a Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with comprehensive capabilities, including STEMI receiving designation. The emergency department features a fast track area referred to as "vertical care," a dedicated triage area with a first eyes nurse, and 24/7 in-house security with an off-duty officer stationed in the ER. The facility operates its own EMS agency and helicopter, serving a nine-county region as the highest trauma area in the region. Respiratory therapy is assigned directly to the ER 24/7, and the department is supported by patient care techs, on-site radiology and CT, and 24/7 physician and mid-level coverage.
