Opportunity:

RN - ER/ED

Job Details:

* 12-hour day shifts with every other weekend requirement
* Position will float between Bryan and College Station campus (approximately 16 minutes apart)
* First to float designation applies
* Hybrid scheduling with some self-scheduling and block scheduling to ensure needs are met
* Rotate in with core staff for holidays - 1 major holiday required
* No on-call or standby requirement
* May float to College Station campus as needed in a helping hands capacity without a patient assignment
* Unit orientation consists of 3 shifts in the ER
* May be asked to precept as needed by the unit
* Must pass the Advanced Dysrhythmia exam (83% passing score) before signing contract - three attempts allowed
* Level III Trauma, Primary Stroke Center with comprehensive capabilities
* 30 beds with 2 trauma bays and 24 acute beds
* Fast track available, referred to as "vertical care"
* Average patient volume of 135 patients daily
* Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: general acute care 1:3-4, Level I trauma 1:1 or 2:1, TNK 1:1 for first hour, vertical care 1:6-8
* Holds are intermixed within the ER and cared for by ED RNs
* Psych patients are intermixed within the ER
* Security is in-house 24/7 with an off-duty officer stationed in the ER
* Common diagnoses include chest pain, nausea/vomiting, fever, pediatric URI symptoms, geriatric altered mental status, and trauma including ground level falls, MVAs, all-terrain vehicle incidents, and assaults
* Pediatric patients account for 10-15% of patient population
* Common drips include Diltiazem, Cardene, Nitro, Propofol, Fentanyl, and Levophed
* Charting systems include PulseCheck or Picis for ED and MEDITECH
* RNs monitor their own telemetry strips
* Respiratory therapy is assigned to the ER 24/7 and handles ABGs with breathing treatments split between RNs and RT
* RT equipment ranges from nasal cannula to ventilators
* X-ray and CT are located within the ER with dedicated transport staff
* Phlebotomy is available in the ER 24/7
* Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a facility with similar patient volume, trauma level, and size
* Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), PALS, TNCC, NIHSS
* Dress code: Navy scrubs required; undershirts must be navy; scrub jackets are optional but must be navy if worn
* Call outs are strongly discouraged and could lead to termination

Facility:

This is a Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with comprehensive capabilities serving as the highest trauma facility in the region, covering 9 counties. The facility operates a 30-bed emergency department with 2 trauma bays and utilizes a vertical care model for fast track patients. The organization maintains its own EMS agency operating across 7 of the 9 counties it serves, as well as its own helicopter for critical transport. The facility is supported by physician and mid-level coverage around the clock and offers a collaborative team environment with strong support staff including patient care technicians and respiratory therapy assigned directly to the ER.
