Job Details:
* 12-hour shifts with day and night shift availability
* Every other weekend rotation (Saturday and Sunday)
* No on-call responsibilities
* Overtime available
* Holiday rotation expected
* Modified self-scheduling - travelers sign up for preferred shifts; if shifts are not selected in time, vacant shifts will be automatically assigned
* Float between pediatric and adult units as needed
* Minimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience required; pediatric behavioral health experience preferred
* First-time travelers accepted
* Care for both voluntary and involuntary admissions across pediatric (ages 5-18) and adult (18+ including geriatric) populations
* Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
* Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety
* Occasional care for substance use disorder or detoxing patients on CIWA who are medically cleared
* Provide traditional medical and psychiatric care in addition to specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens
* Patient ratios: Day 1:5-6; Night 1:13 with resource and nursing support
* Required skills include de-escalation, physical restraint experience (no chemical restraints used), medication administration, ability to run groups, and documentation
* May have opportunity to act as charge nurse, but not required
* Charting system: Cerner
* Medication dispensing: Pyxis
* Scrub color: Any solid color; must be professional

* Required certifications: BLS, Maine State License
* MOAB certification obtained on site during orientation
Facility:
This is a freestanding acute inpatient behavioral health facility with 94 beds, including 50 pediatric beds and 44 adult beds. All patients are medically cleared through a contracted emergency department located five minutes away prior to admission. The facility provides a full continuum of psychiatric care and features a collaborative, supportive team environment including a nurse manager, house administrator, charge nurses, psych techs, a contracted phlebotomist, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, and on-site security. The organization emphasizes staff safety and de-escalation through regular scenario-based training and an on-site MOAB Educator/Trainer.
