Opportunity:

RN - SICU

Job Details:

* Work 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
* Every other weekend (EOW) required
* Weekend requirements of 4-6 days per 6-week schedule depending on coverage
* No self-scheduling; scheduling is based on unit needs
* Must be open to floating; travelers will be first to float to other ICUs within the hospital with skill set considered for assignment
* 12-bed SICU unit (6CA) with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:3 depending on acuity, downgrade, or emergency admissions
* Common diagnoses include liver/kidney transplant, vascular surgeries, ENT cancer cases, facial flaps, throat/esophageal infections, and abdominal surgeries
* Required skills include early recognition of changes in patient condition, clear communication and escalation with providers, critical thinking, CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tubes, ventilator management, and management of various drains and surgical sites
* Required to titrate drips including vasopressin, epinephrine, levophed, heparin, dobutamine, dopamine, versed, hydromorphone, fentanyl, ketamine, nimbex, esmolol, and cardene
* Intensivist on unit during days and/or nights; APPs on unit 24/7
* Respiratory therapy available in ICU 24/7
* No telemetry/monitor techs on unit; RNs are required to read their own strips using Phillips monitors
* Charge nurse present on each shift; preference is free charge but may take full assignment depending on staffing
* Nurse aides/patient care techs available intermittently based on census at a 1:12 ratio when present, assisting with patient ADLs, blood glucose checks, and transport
* Charting system: EPIC (required)
* Scrub color requirements: teal bottoms with black or printed coordinating scrub top; no fleece jackets; no shellac, dip, acrylic nails, or overlays; unchipped regular nail polish is allowed
* 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
* Cancellation policy: 4 shifts per 13-week assignment; 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks
* Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
* 3+ years of experience preferred; previous travel experience and background in a high-volume hospital strongly preferred
* BSN not required
* Daily parking available at $15+/day with monthly parking pass options ranging from $95-$120

This is a large, busy Level 1 Trauma Center offering a wide range of acute care services across multiple specialty units. The facility operates a dedicated surgical intensive care unit with 24/7 intensivist and APP coverage, as well as around-the-clock respiratory therapy support. The organization maintains high standards of patient care and supports a collaborative environment with experienced clinical staff across multiple ICU settings.
