RN - SICU

Job Details:

* Work 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
* Every other weekend (EOW) required
* Weekend requirement of 4-6 days per 6-week schedule depending on coverage
* No self-scheduling; scheduled based on unit needs
* 12-bed Surgical ICU (6CA) with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:2 or 1:3 depending on acuity and admissions
* Must be open to floating to other ICUs within the hospital; skill set will be considered for assignment
* 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
* Cancellation policy: 4 shifts per 13-week assignment or 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks
* Common patient diagnoses include liver/kidney transplant, vascular surgeries, ENT cancer, facial flaps, throat cancer resection, complicated airway infections, abdominal surgeries, mastectomy, and deep tissue flaps
* Required skills include early recognition of changes in patient condition, clear communication and escalation with providers, critical thinking, CRRT, hemodynamic monitoring, chest tube management, ventilator management, and management of various drains and surgical sites
* Required to titrate drips including vasopressin, epinephrine, levophed, heparin, dobutamine, dopamine, versed, hydromorphone, fentanyl, ketamine, nimbex, esmolol, and cardene
* Required to read own telemetry strips using Phillips monitors; no telemetry/monitor techs on unit
* Intensivist on unit during days and/or nights; APPs on unit 24/7
* Respiratory therapy available 24/7
* Charge nurse present each shift; preference for free charge but may take full assignment depending on staffing
* Nurse aides/patient care techs available intermittently based on census at a 1:12 ratio when present, assisting with patient ADLs, blood glucose checks, and transport
* Charting system: EPIC experience required
* Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NIHSS
* Dress code: Teal scrub bottoms with black or coordinating printed scrub top; no fleece jackets; no shellac, dip, acrylic nails, or overlays; unchipped regular nail polish permitted
* Daily parking available with on/off campus options ranging from $95-$120 per month for a parking pass
* 3+ years of experience, previous travel experience, and background in a high-volume hospital strongly preferred

This is a large, busy Level 1 Trauma Center offering a high-acuity acute care environment with a dedicated Surgical ICU. The facility provides comprehensive specialty services including transplant, vascular surgery, oncology, and complex surgical care. With 24/7 intensivist and APP coverage alongside full respiratory therapy support, the facility is equipped to handle the most critical patient populations and is committed to maintaining high standards of patient care.
