RN - MedSurg

Job Details:

* Work 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
* 5 weekend shifts required in a 6-week period
* Holiday shifts required based on need
* First to float when staffing needs arise
* Float between MedSurg 5th Floor and MedSurg 6th Floor, as well as like units at nearby facilities approximately 8 miles away
* May also float to the ER for holds or to serve as a 1:1
* Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, occasionally 1:6
* Charge nurse present on each shift
* Nurse aides and patient care techs available on unit at a 1:8 ratio
* Care for patients with total joints, orthopedic hip fractures, spine surgeries (lumbar and cervical), urology procedures, general surgeries, GYN overflow, and medical overflow including COPD, sepsis, and behavioral health
* Required to read and interpret telemetry strips independently using virtual tele tech support
* Work with RT equipment including CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen
* Common drips include heparin, PCAs, and morphine drips (no titration required)
* Charting system: EPIC
* Must have a minimum of 2 years of MedSurg experience
* Must have EPIC experience
* Must be able to read and interpret telemetry
* Must be willing to take students and may be asked to precept new travelers
* BSN required
* Required certifications: BLS, EKG Certification
* Any color scrubs permitted as long as they are clean and professional
* Orientation includes 3 days of general orientation with EPIC training, online modules to complete prior to start, and 2 shifts on the unit with a preceptor
* No block scheduling; schedule is managed by facility scheduler
* No on-call or standby requirement

Facility:

This acute care facility is a well-established healthcare organization offering a wide range of medical and surgical services. The MedSurg unit operates 42 beds on the 5th floor and provides care for a diverse patient population including orthopedic, surgical, urological, and medical overflow cases. The facility maintains a supportive staffing structure with charge nurses on every shift and access to day shift ADT nurses to assist with admissions, discharges, and tasking.
