Job Details:
* Work in an 86-bed adult emergency department
* Patient ratios are acuity based, typically 4:1 but will surge when needed
* Day shift consists of 7 RNs with CNC and additional staff brought in every 2 hours, with 18-20 RNs total during peak hours
* Night shift consists of 6-7 RNs with CNC
* Must pick up 4 weekend shifts per month
* EMR system: Meditech - experience required
* Must wear navy blue scrub tops, bottoms, and jacket
* Expertise in caring for an acute patient population required
* Can-do attitude with lots of energy and great communication skills required
* Trauma center experience preferred
* Perform airway and respiratory procedures including oxygen administration, suctioning, bag-valve-mask ventilation, assist with RSI, endotracheal tube management, ventilator initiation and monitoring, CPAP/BiPAP setup, capnography monitoring, chest tube setup and management, and tracheostomy care
* Perform vascular access procedures including peripheral IV insertion (including ultrasound-guided), central line assistance, intraosseous insertion, arterial line assistance, blood specimen collection, blood cultures, venipuncture, accessing implanted ports, and PICC line management
* Perform trauma procedures including primary and secondary trauma assessment, cervical collar application, spinal immobilization, pelvic binder application, tourniquet application, hemorrhage control, wound packing, trauma resuscitation, massive transfusion protocol implementation, burn assessment and management, and trauma activation coordination
* Perform wound and orthopedic procedures including dressing application, staple and suture removal, laceration repair assistance, splint application, fracture stabilization, orthopedic reduction assistance, and wound irrigation
* Perform emergency procedures including procedural sedation monitoring, emergency childbirth assistance, disaster response, hazmat decontamination assistance, violence and restraint management, and behavioral emergency interventions
* Perform gastrointestinal and genitourinary procedures including nasogastric tube insertion, orogastric tube insertion, gastric decompression, Foley catheter insertion, straight catheterization, continuous bladder irrigation setup, and ostomy assessment and care
* Perform pediatric emergency procedures including pediatric IV insertion, pediatric resuscitation, Broselow tape utilization, neonatal stabilization, pediatric procedural sedation monitoring, and pediatric medication dosing verification
* Perform Level II Trauma Center specialized skills including massive transfusion protocols, advanced burn stabilization, amputation management, crush injury management, triage assessments, prioritizing patient flow, and coordinating trauma activations
* Manage sepsis alerts, activate stroke/STEMI alerts, conduct patient education, and coordinate transfers
* Perform cardiac and critical care procedures including 12-lead ECG acquisition and interpretation basics, continuous cardiac monitoring, defibrillation, synchronized cardioversion, transcutaneous pacing, ACLS resuscitation, code blue participation, post-cardiac arrest care, STEMI protocol activation, vasopressor administration and titration, and critical medication infusions
* Administer medications including IV push medications, continuous IV infusions, blood product administration, procedural sedation medications, pain management medications, thrombolytic administration, and rapid blood transfusion setup
* Perform neurological emergency procedures including stroke assessments (NIHSS), stroke alert activation, neuro checks, seizure management, and conscious sedation monitoring
* Point-of-care testing including glucose testing and specimen collection and handling
* Required certifications: ACLS, PALS, BLS, TNCC, ENPC, NIH, CPI
Facility:
This facility is a Level II Trauma Center operating a large 86-bed adult emergency department staffed by over 100 professionals. The unit provides comprehensive emergency services including cardiac care, neurological emergencies, trauma response, and pediatric emergency procedures. The facility utilizes Meditech as its electronic medical records system and is equipped with standard emergency department equipment to support a high-acuity patient population.
