Job Details:
* 12-hour variable shifts
* 4 weekend shifts per scheduling period (4 weeks)
* Patient ratio of 1:3 for days, nights, and weekends
* Must be able to float to other UCSF campuses/facilities
* 2 years of telemetry experience required
* CIWA and EKG course/cardiac rhythm recognition experience required
* Tracheostomy care expertise required
* Travel nursing experience required
* Teaching hospital experience required
* Charting system: Epic (required)
* Required certifications: CA RN license, BSN, AHA BLS
* Preferred certifications: ACLS, PCCN
* Required skills include: accessing/managing ports, arterial line management, BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, central line care/management, chest tubes, epidural analgesia, feeding tube care and management, heparin protocols, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs), interpretation of dysrhythmias, isolation precautions/PPE, IV insulin protocols, management of cardiac drips, management of dysrhythmias, non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, PCA, PCU/DOU/IMC/stepdown experience, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure management, starting and maintaining IVs, substance withdrawal, surgical drains, telemetry monitoring, titration of insulin drips, tracheostomy care/management, wound care/wound vac
* Patient population includes adults and geriatrics
* Common diagnoses include end stage renal and liver disease, AMS, alcohol use disorder, sepsis, pneumonia, sickle cell, respiratory failure, acute on chronic pain, cellulitis, complications from cancer, infectious disease workup, and new onset AFib
* Patients present with multiple co-morbidities and complex medical/social histories
* Fast-paced environment with frequent ICU transfers and rapid response team involvement
* Q2H interventions, sometimes Q1H
* Respiratory-heavy unit including trach suctioning/care and HFNC
* Frequent patient movement off unit for procedures and imaging
* Special equipment includes standard lift equipment, 2 ceiling lifts, Philips bedside monitors, high flow nasal cannula, and peritoneal dialysis competent unit
* Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, lift teams, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and transportation
Facility:
This is a large academic medical center and teaching hospital offering a wide range of specialized inpatient services. The facility supports a complex patient population with access to comprehensive interdisciplinary teams including respiratory services, physical therapy, IV teams, rapid response teams, and pharmacy support. The unit operates with a 30-bed capacity and maintains a strong focus on high-acuity stepdown and telemetry care, with robust resources and support systems in place for both staff and patients.
