Opportunity:
RN - MedSurg General Medical
Job Details:
* 12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
* Every other weekend required
* No block scheduling; travelers are utilized to fill holes in the schedule and no scheduling requests can be accommodated
* No specific holiday requirement; may rotate in with core staff
* Can be placed on standby for low census; no additional call required
* Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4-5 on both day and night shifts
* Nurse aide support available with ratios of 1:7-9 on both day and night shifts
* Charge nurse available 24/7 and typically does not take a patient assignment; break/resource nurse, house supervisor, and critical care outreach RN also available 24/7
* Remote telemetry monitored by a tele tech on a separate unit; nurses should have basic understanding of strip interpretation and lethal rhythms; Phillips Monitors used
* Common patient diagnoses include GI, pneumonia, cellulitis, renal, CHF, diabetes, ETOH withdrawal, electrolyte imbalances, infectious patients, general medical patients, and psych patients with medical complaints
* Occasional drip titration required (heparin, cardizem); no vasopressors; set rate drips include amiodarone
* No ventilators on unit; CPAP at night for maintenance, high flow oxygen common, BiPAP occasional and managed by respiratory therapy
* Preferred skills include deescalation techniques, chest tube management, heparin drips, and NG/feeding tube experience
* Travelers are first to float within skill set; may float to other med surg units, ICU as a resource, ER for holds, or to various units as a sitter
* Bedside report and hourly rounding are strongly emphasized; teamwork is essential on this unit
* Charting system: EPIC
* Required certifications: BLS
* BSN not required
* Professional scrubs in any color required; no tattoos visible above shoulders; only facial piercing allowed is a nose stud; any hair color permitted if clean and well-kempt
* Unit-specific orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts

This acute care facility operates a 36-bed private room Medical Surgical unit with a Trauma Level 2 designation, providing comprehensive inpatient care across a wide range of medical conditions. The unit is supported by around-the-clock charge nursing, house supervision, and critical care outreach resources to ensure high-quality patient care. The facility places a strong emphasis on care bundle compliance, bedside reporting, and hourly rounding as core components of their patient care philosophy.
