RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

* Day shift position working 0700 to 1930, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
* Additional shift options available: 1100-2330 and 2300-0700
* Every other weekend and every other holiday required
* No on-call or standby requirement
* Float required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
* 29-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
* Common patient diagnoses include ortho trauma (fractures, joint replacements), vascular (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips, wound dressing changes), urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation), neuro-spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain), OB/GYN oncology, and acute medical admissions
* RNs required to titrate drips following a prescribed nomogram; common drips include heparin, nitroglycerin, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin
* Telemetry techs monitor patients 24/7; RNs are not required to read their own strips
* Charge nurse on all shifts takes an assignment; house supervisor present on all shifts
* Nursing assistants present on unit; during 1900-0700 timeframe, RNs carry additional responsibility for vital signs and ADLs
* Equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen therapy; no ventilators; respiratory therapy support is available
* Block scheduling utilized; no self-scheduling
* Scrub color is any color, clean and professional
* Unit orientation includes 1 day of computer training and 1-2 days of precepted floor orientation
* Charting system: Cerner
* 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience required
* BSN not required
* Required certification: BLS (AHA)
* All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility

This Level 2 trauma acute care facility operates a dedicated medical-surgical unit providing comprehensive care across a wide range of specialties including orthopedic trauma, vascular surgery, urology, neuro-spine, and oncology. The unit is supported by telemetry technicians monitoring patients around the clock, respiratory therapy staff, nursing assistants, and house supervisors on every shift, ensuring a collaborative and well-resourced care environment.
