RN - Labor & Delivery

Job Details:

* 12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
* Every other weekend requirement - nights include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
* Schedules posted 6 weeks in advance with no self-scheduling
* Travelers can access schedules remotely and make themselves available for extra shifts or make trades with other staff
* Block scheduling is generally not available
* Unit: Family Birthing Center with 4 L&D beds and 8 Mother/Baby beds
* Patient ratios: L&D 1:2, 1:1 active delivery; Mother/Baby 1:4 couplets
* Common patients include standard L&D, term and preterm deliveries, couplets, general GYN patients, and newborns on IV antibiotics and/or short-term oxygen
* Facility averages 45 deliveries per month with no high-risk cases; mothers 34 weeks and below are transferred
* 2 RNs and 1 RT present during every delivery
* Hospitalist/OB on-call and anesthesia on-call at night
* Respiratory therapy available 24/7
* Charting system: Cerner EMR
* Scrubs provided by facility
* No telemetry or ventilator responsibilities
* No floating required - responsible for L&D or Mother/Baby unit only
* Floor-specific orientation: 2-3 days on the floor with preceptor
* Holidays rotate in with core staff; travelers expected to work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's)
* Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment
* Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
* Must be strong in emergency situations and able to work independently
* Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, NRP, and Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring; STABLE preferred
* 2 supervisory references required at submittal (charge nurse accepted); 1 within 12 months and 1 within 3 years

This acute care facility operates a Family Birthing Center offering comprehensive labor and delivery as well as mother/baby services. The unit is supported by on-call OB and anesthesia services at night along with 24/7 respiratory therapy. The facility emphasizes strong independent clinical skills and maintains a collaborative care environment with charge nurses and core staff working alongside traveling nurses to provide quality patient care.
