RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

* 3x12 hour shifts, 6:00 AM to 6:30 PM
* No self-scheduling for travel RNs; blocked scheduling can be accommodated at times
* Weekend requirement: as needed
* Holiday requirement: as needed
* Low census/cancellation may occur; up to 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
* Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 on both days and nights; must be able to take a 1:6 ratio
* High turnover on day shift - when discharging a patient, expect to receive an admit
* Common diagnoses include pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, respiratory illness, orthopedic surgical patients (hips, knees, shoulders), general surgery (appendix, gallbladder, bowel), spinal surgery, and urology
* Patients may include older teens through adults
* Required to titrate drips including Heparin; set rate drips include Bumex and Lasix
* Cardiac tech available 24/7; RNs not required to read their own telemetry strips
* Respiratory therapy support available 24/7; equipment includes trachs, CPAP for OSA, BiPAP, and high flow (not often)
* Nursing supervisor available 24/7; charge nurses do not take patients
* Nurse aides available at a 1:8-1:10 ratio and are able to perform accuchecks and vital signs
* May float to IMCU for Med Surg assignments
* Scrub color: Navy Blue
* Unit orientation: 1.5 shifts
* Charting system: EPIC; must have prior EPIC documentation experience
* Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience required
* Must practice bedside shift report and proactive patient rounding
* Teamwork expected, including answering call lights and collaborating with CNAs
* Required certification: BLS (AHA)
* BSN not required

This acute care facility operates a 38-bed Med Surg unit and holds a Level 3 Trauma designation. The facility provides comprehensive nursing support including 24/7 nursing supervisors, cardiac technicians, and respiratory therapy services. The organization maintains a collaborative care environment with structured charge nurse coverage on all shifts and dedicated nurse aide support throughout the unit.
