Job Details:

* Float between adult and pediatric behavioral health units as needed
* Adult unit has 44 beds; Pediatric unit has 50 beds serving ages 5-18
* Day shift patient ratio of 1:5-6; Night shift ratio of 1:13 with resource support
* 12-hour shifts with every other weekend rotation (Saturday/Sunday)
* No on-call requirements; overtime is available
* Expected to work holidays on a rotation basis
* Modified self-scheduling - travelers sign up for preferred shifts subject to manager review and adjustment
* Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
* Orientation consists of first week on days (Monday-Friday), followed by second week on assigned 12-hour shifts
* Treat involuntary and voluntary admissions across all age groups from pediatrics through geriatric
* Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
* Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, MDD, and bipolar disorder; may also encounter eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety
* May occasionally see substance use disorder or detoxing patients on CIWA (must be medically cleared)
* Provide traditional medical and psychiatric care in addition to specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens
* Required skills include de-escalation, experience with physical restraints (chemical restraints are NOT used), medication passes, comfort running groups, and documentation
* May have opportunity to act as charge nurse but not required
* Must be familiar with seclusion room protocols
* Charting system: Cerner; medication system: Pyxis
* Required certifications: BLS, Maine state nursing license; MOAB certification obtained on-site during orientation
* Minimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience required; pediatric behavioral health experience preferred
* First-time travelers accepted
* Scrub color: any solid color; must be professional

* Heavy snow conditions expected during winter months

Facility:

This free-standing acute inpatient behavioral health facility operates 94 beds across adult and pediatric units, with a contracted emergency department located five minutes away. All patients are medically cleared prior to admission, and the facility handles both voluntary and involuntary admissions. The facility provides a robust support structure including a nurse practitioner on-site until 4:00 PM and on call overnight, daily psychiatrist rounds, occupational therapy seven days a week, contracted phlebotomy services, and dedicated psychiatric technicians on all shifts. Scenario-based training and a dedicated MOAB Educator/Trainer are available on-site to support staff development and safety.
