Opportunity:

Histotechnologist

Job Details:

* 8-hour day shift, Monday through Friday
* Must be certified as a histotechnologist with ASCP or equivalent certification
* Responsible for the identification and processing of all tissue specimens received in anatomic pathology
* Assign sequential accession numbers to each tissue specimen while maintaining absolute certainty of patient identification throughout all processing and handling procedures
* Accurately enter all patient demographic information, specimen source, and physician and/or surgeon for each specimen received
* Assist pathologist with gross examination of all tissue specimens by providing accurately labeled tissue cassettes, loading and operating the tissue processor, and providing any additional assistance as requested
* Meticulously process, cut sections from embedded tissue blocks, stain, and deliver prepared slides to pathologist in a timely manner for daily microscopic examination
* Assist pathologist with frozen section preparation immediately after specimen is received in the histology department
* Perform special histochemical staining procedures as required by the pathologist within the timeframe requested for timely diagnostic reporting
* Prepare slides or anatomical material for sending to other laboratories for consultation or processing as deemed necessary by the pathologist
* File properly indexed tissue slides and blocks for storage and efficient retrieval at all times
* Ensure slides are retained for the proper length of time before discarding
* Assist with the rotation of all patient specimens located in storage sites as needed
