RN - Behavioral Health Unit

Job Details:

* Work 12-hour night shifts from 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM
* Every 3rd weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) or potential weekender schedule working every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
* Holiday coverage assigned based on unit need
* Low census policy results in full shift cancellation
* Charting system: EPIC
* Scrub color: Navy blue
* Required certifications: BLS (AHA or ARC), CPI
* Minimum 1 year of psychiatric nursing experience required
* BSN not required
* Must be comfortable with physical restraints including 4-point and chair restraints
* Care for patients 19 years and older with diagnoses including substance use disorders, schizophrenia, suicidal or homicidal ideation, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and geri-psych
* Nurse-to-patient ratios: Intensive Unit (IPU) - 2 RNs with 1 tech per 10 patients; Progressive Unit (PPU) - 1 RN with 1 tech per 8 patients
* Job duties include rounding, medication pass, assessments, crisis intervention, diabetes management, wound care, breathing treatments/inhalers, and patient discharges
* No IV administration on this unit
* No telemetry monitoring on this unit
* Charge nurse available each shift and takes patients on the IPU side
* Flexibility with scheduling is key; block scheduling of 3 consecutive shifts available upon request
* Schedule made 4 to 6 weeks in advance
* Floating to other areas of the hospital is not typical but may be used as a 1:1 sitter
* Orientation includes meeting with nurse manager for EPIC training followed by 2 shifts paired with an RN on the floor
* Cancellation policy: 3 shifts per 13-week assignment
* 45-mile radius rule applies

This acute care facility operates an 18-bed Behavioral Health Unit divided into two distinct areas: a 10-bed Intensive Psychiatric Unit (IPU) with an enclosed nurses station and in-room cameras, and an 8-bed Progressive Psychiatric Unit (PPU) with an open nurses station. The facility maintains a Trauma Level 3 designation and offers comprehensive behavioral health services with 24/7 charge nurse coverage, respiratory therapy consultation, and a dedicated wound care RN available for consultation. The unit maintains an average length of stay of 6 to 7 days and fosters a collaborative and welcoming team environment.
