Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

* 3x12 hour night shifts (6:00 PM - 6:30 AM)
* Weekend and holiday coverage required as needed
* No self-scheduling available for travel RNs; blocked scheduling may be accommodated at times
* Low census/cancellation standby requirement; up to 3 shift cancellations per 13-week assignment
* Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 on both days and nights; must be able to take a 1:6 ratio
* High turnover on day shift - expect admissions when discharges occur
* 38-bed Med Surg unit serving adults and possibly older teens with diagnoses including pneumonia, UTI, dehydration, influenza, alcohol withdrawal, and respiratory illness
* Surgical patient population includes orthopedic (hips, knees, shoulders), general surgery (appendix, gallbladder, bowel), spinal surgery, and urology
* Required to titrate drips including Heparin; set rate drips include Bumex and Lasix
* Cardiac tech available 24/7; RNs not required to read own telemetry strips
* Respiratory therapy support available 24/7; RT equipment includes trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen
* Nursing supervisor available 24/7; charge nurses do not take patients on day shift; night shift charge does not take patients
* Nurse aides available at a 1:8-1:10 ratio; able to perform accuchecks and vital signs
* May float to IMCU for Med Surg assignments
* Charting system: EPIC; must have prior EPIC documentation experience
* Bedside shift report required; proactive patient rounding and teamwork expectations including answering call lights and collaborating with CNAs
* 1.5-shift unit-specific orientation provided
* Scrub color: Navy Blue
* Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience required; should have experience with submitted shift (days vs. nights)
* First-time travelers accepted
* BSN not required
* Required certifications: BLS (AHA)
