Job Details:

* 12-hour night shifts
* Weekend coverage required with 4 weekend shifts per biweekly period
* Patient ratio of 4:1 for days, nights, and weekends
* Float required to other UCSF facilities
* 2 years of emergency department experience required
* Prior travel experience required within the last 12 months
* BSN required
* Must have experience working at a fast-paced, inner-city hospital
* Epic charting system experience required
* Cerner proficiency preferred
* Prior teaching hospital experience preferred
* Community hospital experience preferred
* Trauma Level II experience required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
* Required certifications: CA RN License, AHA BLS, PALS, ACLS, TNCC
* Preferred certification: CEN
* Required skills include: BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, care of ventilated patients, chest tube insertion/management, CVA management, emergency medications, general emergency department combined adult/pediatric care, interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs), interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, intubation, isolation precautions/PPE, Level II Trauma Center, management of patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure, 12-lead EKG/ECG, phlebotomy, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, starting and maintaining IVs, and triage
* Treats patients of all age groups including infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics
* Common patient diagnoses include stroke, STEMI, cardiac and respiratory arrest, DKA, abdominal pain, and orthopedic issues
* Interdisciplinary support available including respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and unit secretary

This facility is a fast-paced, inner-city hospital and academic medical center offering a dynamic and high-acuity environment for emergency department nurses. The emergency department features 16 beds across 9 rooms with a daily census of approximately 40 patients. The unit is supported by a robust interdisciplinary team and provides care across a wide range of emergency and trauma cases, making it an excellent setting for experienced travel nurses looking to grow their clinical expertise.
