Opportunity:
RN - Step Down / Progressive Care
Job Details:
* Work 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
* 13-week contract assignment
* Every other weekend required (alternating 4 weekend shifts Saturday/Sunday per month)
* Delayed start utilized rather than on-call shifts when census is low
* Patient ratio of 3:1
* Work in a high acuity step-down/progressive care unit with 19 beds
* Unit staffed with 1 charge RN and 6 RNs per shift
* Operate and monitor bedside monitors, Alaris IV pumps, heated humidity high flow O2, BiPap, chest tubes, tracheostomy, kangaroo feeding pumps, gastric tubes, and surgical drains
* Use EPIC electronic medical records system
* Complete physical assessments, intake, and output every 4 hours
* Perform hourly safety rounds and every two-hour positioning and ADLs as indicated
* Conduct mandatory bedside handoff
* Assist with emergent cardioversion procedures
* May float to cardiac surgery IMC, med-tele, med-surg, and ortho-neuro units
* Wear navy blue scrubs
* Minimum 1 year of step-down ICU/IMC/PCU experience required
* Minimum 1 year of telemetry/cardiac monitoring experience required
* Experience with trach patients requiring continuous BiPap/long-term vent support preferred
* Experience with titratable drips including dopamine, dobutamine, nitro, cardene, ketamine, heparin, Cardizem, and amiodarone preferred
* Experience with CIWA assessments and alcohol/drug withdrawal treatment preferred
* Must be positive, team-focused, and adaptable to quickly changing acuity in a busy, fast-paced environment
* Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIH-SS
* Must hold a permanent Alaska RN license at time of submission (temporary licensing not accepted)

This healthcare facility operates a high-acuity step-down/progressive care unit located on the 4th floor of the main hospital building. The unit is equipped with advanced medical equipment and technology to support complex patient care needs, including patients requiring cardiac monitoring, respiratory support, and intensive nursing interventions. The facility utilizes EPIC as its electronic medical records system and maintains a strong focus on team-oriented, patient-centered care with structured rounding and assessment protocols.
