RN - MedSurg/General Surgery

Job Details:

* 13-week contract position
* Shift options: 3x12s or 4x12s (4x12 preferred), 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
* Every other weekend required with holiday and call rotation
* Patient ratio of 1:6 (occasionally 1:7)
* Minimum 3 years of experience highly preferred; first-time travelers accepted but not preferred
* On-call rotation required
* Floating within scope to meet facility needs may be required
* Block scheduling available at manager's discretion
* Facility may cancel one shift per two-week period
* Candidates available to work holidays are a priority
* Scrub color: Royal blue or white (for RNs)
* Charting system: Epic (experience required)
* Free parking available
* Required certifications: South Carolina or Multi-State/Compact RN license, BLS; ACLS preferred
* Trauma Level I and II experience preferred; previous charge experience preferred
* Patient age groups: Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics
* Care for patients with general surgery diagnoses including thyroidectomy, mastectomy, hiatal hernia, cholecystectomy, colon resection, nephrectomy, hysterectomy, GI bleed, MVA blunt trauma, and debridement/skin graft procedures
* Special procedures include rounding with surgeon, pre-op Hibiclens baths, facilitating patient out-of-bed day of surgery, and supporting positive patient experience scores
* Required skills include: accessing/managing ports, BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, central line blood draw, chest tube management, colostomy/ileostomy care, CVA management, feeding tube care, heparin administration, high flow nasal cannula, insulin management, ABG interpretation, isolation precautions/PPE, management of dysrhythmias, PICC line management, telemetry remote monitoring, tracheostomy care, wound care/wound vac, continuous bladder irrigation, and IV pump/central line management
* Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, lift teams, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and unit secretary

Facility:

This acute care facility operates a 396-bed hospital offering comprehensive medical and surgical services. The MedSurg/General Surgery unit consists of 36 beds with a daily census of approximately 35 patients and is supported by a robust interdisciplinary team. The unit emphasizes a collaborative care environment with two nurses per station for easy access to medications and supplies, and prioritizes a positive patient experience.
