Job Details:

* Must be willing to float between pediatric and adult units as needed
* 12-hour shifts with day and night options available
* Weekend rotation required every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
* No on-call responsibilities
* Overtime available
* Holiday rotation expected
* Modified self-scheduling: travelers sign up for preferred shifts, manager reviews and adjusts to ensure coverage; predetermined weekend rotation assigned
* Orientation: first week (Monday through Friday) on day shift; second week on 12-hour shifts as contracted
* Minimum 1 year of behavioral health nursing experience required; pediatric behavioral health experience preferred
* First-time travelers accepted
* Patient population includes voluntary and involuntary admissions; pediatric patients ages 5-18 and adults ages 18 and older including geriatric
* Common pediatric diagnoses include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria
* Common adult diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, and bipolar disorder; may also see eating disorders, suicidal ideation, anxiety, and occasionally substance use disorder or detoxing patients on CIWA
* All patients are medically cleared from an ED prior to admission; not typical to have lines, drains, or tubes
* No forensic patients or inmates; seclusion rooms used when necessary
* Patient ratios: RN day shift 1:5-6; RN night shift 1:13 with resource and nursing support
* Facility provides traditional medical and psychiatric care in addition to specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens
* Skills required include de-escalation experience, experience with physical restraints (chemical restraints are NOT used), medication passes, ability to run groups, and documentation
* Opportunity to act as charge nurse but not required
* Charting system: Cerner; medication dispensing: Pyxis
* Required certifications: BLS, Maine state license; MOAB training provided on site during orientation
* Scrub color: any solid color; must be professional

* Heavy snow conditions expected during winter months

Facility:

This free-standing acute inpatient behavioral health facility features 94 beds across pediatric and adult units. The facility is supported by a comprehensive care team including a nurse manager, house administrator, charge nurses, psychiatric technicians, a contracted phlebotomist, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, and on-site security. The organization emphasizes a collaborative and supportive environment, with management actively engaged in rounding during escalation situations and scenario-based de-escalation training offered every other week.
