Job Details:
* Perform comprehensive patient assessments, reassessments, and evaluations of nursing interventions and care plans
* Provide patient care based on standards of care, protocols, and established policies and procedures
* Administer medications and intravenous therapy safely in accordance with physician orders and protocols
* Safely administer vasoactive medications with understanding of dosage, action, use, side effects, and titration parameters
* Perform accurate and timely identification of cardiac arrhythmias
* Institute, monitor, and document thrombolytic and anticoagulation therapy standards and protocols
* Assess and reassess patient pain levels utilizing the numerical pain scale and notify physicians as needed
* Perform and document initial triage assessments upon patient arrival and implement triage protocols as needed
* Identify patients at risk for potential or alleged abuse and initiate appropriate safety plans
* Complete mandated reporting for domestic violence, child and elder abuse, stabbings, gunshot wounds, burns, and sexual assault per policy
* Collect and document forensic evidence and maintain chain of evidence per policy and procedures
* Recognize normal and abnormal laboratory and diagnostic results and notify physician of changes in a timely manner
* Demonstrate skills associated with initiation and maintenance of intubated patients including suctioning, troubleshooting, and weaning
* Accurately interpret arterial blood gases, pulse oximetry, and clinical features of impaired gas exchange
* Implement VAP bundle components consistently and per protocol
* Provide patient and family teaching based on identified learning needs and barriers to learning
* Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others appropriately
* Identify patients at risk for violent behavior and implement non-violent intervention strategies
* Maintain knowledge of Disaster Policy and Procedure
* Ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently
* 3 to 5 years of emergency department experience preferred
* Associate degree in nursing required; Bachelor of Science in nursing preferred
* Current Massachusetts RN license required
* ACLS required upon hire or active BLS with AHA ACLS obtained within 60 days of hire
* AHA PALS required within six months of hire
* TNCC, ENPC, and CEN preferred
