Opportunity:
RN - NICU
Job Details:
* Active NJ or Compact nursing license required at time of submission
* Required certifications: BLS, NRP; PALS preferred
* 2+ years of current Level III NICU experience required (facility is Level IV but accepts Level III experience)
* EPIC charting experience required
* Every other weekend requirement (Saturday and Sunday)
* Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays per unit needs
* Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
* Patient ratios: 1:2 NICU; 1:3-4 SCN
* Unit cares for neonates 29-34 weeks and greater than 34 weeks gestation in a 21-bed NICU and 16-bed SCN
* Will not attend high-risk deliveries
* Must float within skillset to Newborn, Peds, and PICU for appropriate assignments
* General NICU care includes developmental care, patient/family teaching, phlebotomy, thermoregulation, blood glucose monitoring, phototherapy, isolation/PPE, and sepsis workup
* Lines and blood skills required: administration of blood and blood products, A-line management, central/implanted line care, IV starts/maintenance, UAC/UVC
* Medication administration required: anti-seizure, antibiotics/antivirals, IV vasopressors, neonatal dose calculations, steroids, surfactants, and insulin
* GI/nutrition skills required: breastfeeding support, breast milk handling, bottle/breast/gavage feedings, NEC management, oral/NG/NJ tube placement
* Respiratory skills required: Bubble CPAP, HFNC, chest tubes, meconium aspiration, oxygen delivery systems, RDS, ETT/NT suctioning, Vapotherm, and vent management (AC/PC/SIMV/CPAP/BiPAP/PEEP)
* Preferred skills include charge experience, jet vents, oscillators, ECMO, UAC, CritiCool body cooling, and neonates received via transport
* First-time travelers and local candidates accepted
Facility:
This facility is a large 628-bed academic medical center that includes a dedicated children's hospital. The NICU is a 37-bed Level IV unit featuring a Special Care Nursery that provides advanced care for critically ill neonates requiring respiratory support, high-frequency ventilation, ECMO, therapeutic hypothermia, invasive monitoring, and complex medical and surgical interventions. The facility is part of New Jersey's largest integrated healthcare system and offers robust interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services, and rapid response teams.
