RN - Labor and Delivery

Job Details:

* 12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
* Every other weekend requirement - Nights: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
* Schedules posted 6 weeks in advance with no self-scheduling available
* Travelers can access schedules from home and make themselves available for extra shifts or trade with other staff
* Block scheduling is generally not available
* Report is given at the bedside
* First to float policy in effect
* Unit: Family Birthing Center with 4 L&D beds and 8 Mother-Baby beds
* Patient ratios: L&D 1:2, 1:1 during active delivery; Mother-Baby 1:4 (couplets)
* Charting system: Cerner EMR
* Scrubs provided by facility
* Respiratory therapy available 24/7
* Pharmacy available 6:30 AM to 10:00 PM with on-call pharmacist for orders after hours
* OB and Anesthesia on-call at night; Hospitalist available during the day
* No telemetry or ventilator responsibilities
* No IV team or nurse aides on unit
* 2-3 days of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor
* Common patients include standard L&D term and preterm, couplets, newborns on IV antibiotics and/or short-term O2, and general GYN patients
* Approximately 45 deliveries per month; no high-risk patients; mothers 34 weeks and below are transferred
* Must be strong in emergency situations and able to work independently, especially at night
* Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
* Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, NRP, and Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring
* STABLE certification preferred
* Hospital may cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment or 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks
* Holidays rotate in with core staff; 2 of the 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) will be worked

Facility:

This acute care facility is part of a large regional health system and houses a Family Birthing Center offering labor and delivery and mother-baby services. The unit supports approximately 45 deliveries per month and provides care for standard term and preterm patients as well as general gynecological patients. The facility maintains round-the-clock respiratory therapy coverage and ensures on-call support for obstetrics and anesthesia during overnight hours.
