Job Details:

* 23-bed medical surgical unit caring for orthopedic, spine, general surgery, and bariatric patients
* Overflow patients from medicine areas when beds are available
* Fast-paced unit receiving 10-20 post-ops per day
* Unit includes cardiac and O2 monitoring capability
* Patient ratios of 5:1 for days, nights, and weekends
* Self-scheduling with manager final approval - block scheduling not guaranteed
* Weekend coverage required
* Will work 3 out of 5 winter holidays
* Float to like units within skillset required
* 2 years of experience required; first-time travelers considered only with several years of post-op surgical patient experience (especially orthopedics and gastrointestinal surgeries)
* Both medical and surgical skillset required
* Strong experience with wound vacs and orthopedic equipment required
* Must be comfortable with high turnover, including multiple admissions and discharges per shift
* Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses including bariatrics, orthopedics, general surgery, GYN surgery, and spine post-op
* Required certifications: BLS
* EKG onboarding exam required to pass during onboarding
* Required skills include: accessing/managing ports, BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, central line care/management, feeding tube care and management, heparin protocols, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, isolation precautions/PPE, telemetry and remote monitoring, total joint replacement, tracheostomy care/management, wound care/wound vac, and more
* Compliance exams required: Med/Surg Tele competency exam, Med/Surg Tele skills, math exam, Med/Pharmacology exam, and CORE exams (no NIHSS)
* Interdisciplinary support available including physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and more
