Job Details:

* 12-hour shifts with variable start times of 05:00, 07:00, 08:00, 09:00, 11:00, 12:00, 15:00, 17:00, and 19:00; more likely evening and night shifts but variable
* Rotating weekends and holidays required (every other weekend and every other holiday)
* No on-call requirement; occasional standby may be required if census is low prior to shift starting
* Work in a 38-bed combined Emergency and Urgent Care unit with 5 trauma bays and resuscitation rooms
* Adult and Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Center, STEMI receiving and Stroke Center
* Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:3 in ER and 1:6 in Urgent Care
* Expected to triage patients arriving by ambulance and walk-in patients
* Common diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, sepsis, syncope, elevated heart rate, headache, and suicide ideation
* Common drips include Heparin, nitroglycerin, diltiazem, amiodarone, nicardipine, and norepinephrine
* RNs are responsible for drawing labs; phlebotomy handles blood cultures unless unable to reach department within 20 minutes
* RNs are expected to monitor patient rhythms using GE monitors throughout the department
* RT equipment including vents, CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow available; RNs may troubleshoot but should call RT for assistance
* Both X-ray and CT available within the department
* Charting system: Cerner experience preferred
* Floating may occur only for patient sitter role or as helping hands; no requirement to take a team of patients on other units
* Scrubs: any solid color, clean and professional
* Minimum 2 years of ER experience preferred; pediatric experience and Level 1 or 2 trauma experience ideal
* Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS, PALS (AHA), TNCC (ENPC encouraged but not required)
* BSN not required
* Valid state license required for submission

Facility:

This facility is an Adult and Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Center operating as a STEMI receiving and Stroke Center, providing comprehensive emergency and urgent care services. The combined Emergency and Urgent Care unit features 38 beds and 5 trauma bays, treating an average of 140 to 180 patients per day. The department is supported around the clock by a House Supervisor, charge nurses, ED physicians, mid-level providers, paramedics, and respiratory therapy, ensuring a well-staffed and collaborative care environment.
