RN - PCU

Job Details:

* Weekend rotation every other weekend required
* Time off requests up to 7 days may be approved; holiday requests require manager approval
* Holiday schedule varies based on unit needs
* Patient ratios: RN 1:3-4 (days and nights); Tech 1:6 (days and nights)
* Care for long-term trach patients on vents, COVID, trauma, sepsis, stroke, and stable craniotomy patients
* Patient types include cardiac and medical patients, post-op general surgery or trauma, s/p cardiac cath, s/p ablation, 24-hour post-op TAVR, STEMI, NSTEMI, CHF, AFib with RVR, sepsis, COPD, ETOH withdrawal, IVDA, pneumonia, and respiratory failure requiring BiPAP or high flow O2
* Required skills include chest tubes, wound VAC/VAC dressing changes, BiPAP, non-titrating vasoactive or antiarrhythmic drips, cardiac rhythm interpretation, temporary pacemakers, TR bands, post femoral sheath care, insulin drips, and general drain/ostomy care
* Experience with trached patients on vents required, including administering 100% FiO2 via suction support and silencing alarms, trach care, and trach suctioning
* Stroke patient care experience required, including Q2H neuro checks
* Post stable craniotomy experience preferred; candidates comfortable with neuro checks and this patient type will be considered
* High flow O2 and trauma patient experience required
* IV starts required; US guided IVs and PICC/midline placement supported by IV/VAT team
* Minimum 1 year of intermediate/PCU level care experience required; if Med/Surg experience only with some PCU, 2 years required
* First-time travelers accepted
* Charge nurse responsibilities may include patient assignment if needed
* Phlebotomy responsibilities included
* Float to ED, ICU, or CCU if intermediate assignment exists in those departments
* CCU patient types include CHF, STEMI, NSTEMI, and similar conditions
* 24/7 support available including resource nurse (ICU trained), respiratory therapy, and hospitalist coverage
* Charting system: Cerner
* Equipment: Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, GE monitors
* Scrub color: Any, must be professional
* Free parking available in designated areas
* Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
* Orientation includes general hospital orientation followed by 1 day on the unit

Facility:

This is a Level II Trauma Center serving as the closest trauma facility within a 50-mile radius, supported by an air flight program. The facility operates a 411-bed hospital with a 12-bed intermediate/PCU unit, providing comprehensive care including 24/7 hospitalist and respiratory therapy coverage. The organization offers robust multidisciplinary support including PT/OT services Monday through Friday, a dedicated IV/VAT team, and trauma surgery monitoring for their own patients.
