Opportunity:
RN MS/Oncology- SURGICAL ONCOLOGY UNIT
Job Details:
* Rotating shifts with various days of the week including weekends per unit needs
* 12-14 weekend shifts required per contract
* 24 orientation hours required
* No on-call required
* Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6; ratios may flex up based on staffing and unit needs - candidates must be comfortable with flexible staffing ratios
* Float required within scope to meet facility needs and may float to sister facilities based on facility needs
* Care for adult patients with known cancer diagnoses recovering post-operatively from surgical interventions
* Specialty focus on abdomen and pelvic area diagnoses including Gynecologic Oncology, Urology Oncology, Colorectal, Pancreatic, Liver, and Stomach
* No Chemotherapy or Biotherapy administered on this unit - chemo certification not required
* Provide nursing care to help patients achieve specific post-operative milestones for discharge
* Utilize Epic for charting - experience required
* Scrub color: Navy
* Trauma Level I experience required
* Teaching hospital experience required; first-time travelers accepted with teaching hospital experience
* Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
* Oncology skills checklist required
* Required certifications: AHA BLS
* Colorado or Compact RN license required
* Key skills required include: accessing/managing ports, administration of blood and blood products, central line care, chest tube care and management, colostomy/ileostomy management, foley catheter insertion/management, post-surgical care, wound care, PICC line care, PCA pump management, tracheostomy care/management, neutropenic precautions, and interpretation of dysrhythmias

This facility is a major academic medical campus and teaching hospital offering comprehensive specialty care across a wide range of medical disciplines. The surgical oncology unit is a 36-bed unit supported by an interdisciplinary team including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and more. The facility incorporates new and innovative technology into everyday workflows and provides educational resources to support nursing staff in delivering specialized oncology care.
