Opportunity:

RN MS/Oncology - Surgical Oncology Unit

Job Details:

* Night shift position with variable days of the week
* Weekend shifts required per unit needs, with 12-14 weekend shifts per contract
* Minimum 2 years of acute care experience required
* Teaching hospital experience required; first-time travelers accepted with teaching hospital experience
* Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6; ratios may flex up based on staffing and unit needs - must be comfortable with flexible staffing ratios
* Floating within scope required to meet facility needs, including potential float to sister facilities
* No on-call required
* Charting system: Epic (experience required)
* Trauma Level I experience required
* Scrub color: Navy
* Required certifications: AHA BLS; Colorado or Compact RN license
* Oncology skills checklist required at time of submission
* Primarily cares for adult patients with a known cancer diagnosis recovering post-operatively from surgical interventions related to the abdomen or pelvic area, including Gynecologic Oncology, Urology Oncology, Colorectal, Pancreatic, Liver, and Stomach
* Nursing care is focused on helping patients achieve specific post-operative milestones for discharge
* No chemotherapy or biotherapy is administered on this unit; chemo certification is not required
* Required skills include but are not limited to: accessing and managing ports, administration of blood and blood products, central line care and blood draw, chest tube care and management, colostomy and ileostomy management, foley catheter insertion and management, infusion pump management, interpretation of dysrhythmias, IV push narcotic agents, neutropenic precautions, PCA pump management, PICC line care, post-surgical care, tracheostomy care and management, wound care, and phlebotomy
* Interdisciplinary support available including IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, and more
* Unit utilizes standard medical equipment with new and innovative technology incorporated into everyday workflows, reviewed during orientation

Facility:

This facility is a premier academic medical campus and teaching hospital offering a wide range of specialty and subspecialty services. The surgical oncology unit consists of 36 beds with a daily census of approximately 33 patients. The unit is supported by a robust interdisciplinary team and provides specialty care tailored to complex oncology diagnoses and post-operative recovery. Nurses are provided with educational resources to support knowledge gaps and special precautions for each procedure, with new and innovative technology incorporated into everyday workflows.
