Opportunity:

5S Trauma Stepdown (IMC/PCU) RN

Job Details:

* 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
* Schedule options: 3x12 or 4x12 with 36 or 48 hour contract options
* 36 hours guaranteed per week
* Weekday shifts with every other weekend required
* Manager may call traveler off once per two-week pay period if necessary
* Float within scope to meet facility needs as needed
* Provide nursing care to multi-system-injured trauma patients and surgical patients using a multidisciplinary team approach
* Unit includes 25 floor beds, 6 stepdown beds, and 6 pediatric beds (travelers not required to see pediatric patients)
* Patient ratios: Floor RN 1:5, Stepdown 1:3
* Patient age groups: Adults and Geriatrics
* Minimum 2 years of RN experience required; 1 year in-specialty experience required
* First-time travelers accepted if experienced in ICU or Trauma
* Ideal background includes PCU, IMC, Trauma, or SDU experience
* Previous orthopedic/trauma experience preferred
* Trauma Level I experience preferred
* Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, CPI, Fit Test (AHA required for BLS and ACLS)
* TNCC preferred
* Charting system: Cerner (preferred experience)
* Scrub color: Royal Blue/White (RN)
* Parking is free for travelers
* Required skills include: IV start, ventilator management, telemetry, Level 1 trauma experience, and conscious sedation
* Additional skills include: blood product administration, central line care/management, chest tubes, epidural analgesia, feeding tube care, heparin protocols, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, wound care/wound vac, tracheostomy care, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, PICC line management, and use of rapid response/code teams
* Special equipment includes: chest tubes, wound vacs, tracheostomy, PEG/feeding tubes, arterial lines, and epidurals for multiple rib fractures
* Stepdown critical drips include: amiodarone, cardizem, precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, insulin, and nitro
* Interdisciplinary support available: IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, phlebotomy, social services, pharmacy, and unit secretary
* WV or Compact RN license required; pending license accepted for submission
* Candidates must have a permanent address over 100 miles from the facility (75?99 miles considered case-by-case)
* Blocked schedule requests will be accommodated when possible
* Holiday RTO requests limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
* Orientation is held every other Thursday with 16 orientation hours

This is a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital that is a member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals and Health Systems (COTH). The facility is a short-term acute care hospital with 855 total staffed beds and offers a comprehensive range of trauma and surgical services. The unit utilizes a multidisciplinary team approach to deliver high-quality nursing care to complex, multi-system-injured trauma and surgical patients.
