RN - PCU

Job Details:

* Intermediate/PCU level of care experience required (minimum 1 year); if only Med/Surg experience, minimum 2 years required
* First-time travelers are welcome to apply
* Patient ratio of 1:3-4 RN to patients on both days and nights
* Tech ratio of 1:6 on both days and nights
* Weekend rotation every other weekend
* Up to 7 days of time off may be approved; holiday requests require manager approval
* General hospital orientation followed by 1 day on the unit
* Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
* Must have PCU-level skillset and experience with trached patients on vents including administering 100% FiO2 via suction support and silencing alarms, trach care, and trach suctioning
* Experience required with stroke patients, Q2H neuro checks, high-flow O2, and trauma patients
* Post stable craniotomy experience preferred; candidates comfortable caring for this patient type and confident in neuro checks will be considered
* Skills required include: chest tubes, wound vacs/VAC dressing changes, BiPAP, non-titrating vasoactive or antiarrhythmic drips, cardiac rhythm interpretation, temporary pacemakers, TR bands, post femoral sheath care, insulin drips, and general drain/ostomy care
* Patient types include cardiac and medical patients, post-op general surgery or trauma, s/p cardiac cath, s/p ablation, 24-hour post-op TAVR, STEMI, NSTEMI, CHF, AFIB with RVR, sepsis, COPD, ETOH withdrawal, IVDA, COVID, PNA, and respiratory failure requiring BiPAP or high-flow O2
* May float to ED, ICU, or CCU if there is an intermediate assignment in one of those departments
* Charge nurse responsibilities may include having patients if needed
* Charting system: Cerner
* Equipment: Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, GE Monitors
* IV/VAT team available for US-guided IVs and PICC/Midline placement; RN will start their own PIVs
* Scrub color: any, must be professional
* Free parking available in designated areas

Facility:

This facility is a 411-bed Level II Trauma Center and the closest trauma center within a 50-mile radius, serving as a critical resource for the region with air flight capabilities. The unit consists of 12 beds and is supported around the clock by a resource nurse who is ICU trained, respiratory therapy, hospitalist coverage, and trauma surgery monitoring. Additional support services include PT/OT Monday through Friday and phlebotomy services, ensuring comprehensive care for a diverse and complex patient population.
