Open Position: RN - PCU Float Pool

Opportunity:

Mainly ED-HOLD FLOATING

Job Details:

* Primary unit will be the ED Holding unit supporting patients waiting on a bed
* Also supporting GSH 1 Daily/2 River North and South/Float Pool Teams
* May float to other units within scope of practice for partial shifts
* 12-hour shifts starting at 7:00 AM or 7:00 PM; must be on unit by 0700 or 1900
* Cannot clock in before 0653 or 1853
* Schedule provided 3 weeks at a time, received approximately 10 days prior to start
* No holiday requests, self-scheduling, or on-call
* Time off requests up to 5 days may be approved; additional days require manager approval
* Weekend availability required and will vary based on unit needs
* Must call staffing office at least 30-45 minutes prior to shift to receive unit assignment
* ED Holding unit is fast-paced with mixed diagnoses including ICU, PCU, and med-surg level patients
* ICU patient ratio 1:2; PCU patient ratio 1:4; Med-Surg patient ratio 1:5
* Will have isolation and non-ambulatory patients
* Must be flexible and resourceful
* ACLS Transport RN role involves transporting patients throughout the entire hospital including inpatient units, ED, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PACU, and Cath Lab
* Night shift ACLS RN assists ED Holds area with breaks and medication administration after 2300 when transports slow down
* Minimum 2 years of experience required in applicable unit specialty (ICU, PCU, or acute care/med-surg)
* First-time travelers accepted
* Required certifications vary by unit:
- ICU: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- PCU: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Med-Surg: BLS, NIHSS
* Required skills vary by unit:
- ICU: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent management, invasive line management, ostomy, general drains, trachs
- PCU: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, lumbar drains, trachs, IV medication titration
- Med-Surg: IVs, PCAs, chest tubes, drains, ostomies, IV antibiotics
* Strong communication and patient teaching/education skills required
* EMR system: EPIC
* IV Pump: Alaris
* Medication dispensing: Pyxis
* Telemetry competency required
* Orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation and 1 day on assigned unit
