Medical Technologist

Job Details:

* Work five 8-hour day shifts from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday
* Rotating weekend and holiday schedule required, currently every 3rd weekend
* No on-call responsibilities
* Strictly assigned to Microbiology - no floating between service lines
* Minimum 3 years of experience preferred
* First-time travelers accepted
* Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or relevant medical or scientific discipline required
* Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP BOC or equivalent, or relevant specialty lab certification required
* Experience with culture set up, Gram stain, and rapid PCR setup required
* Experience with Microbiology and Beaker, culture reading, identification, and susceptibility testing highly preferred
* Perform plating, read Gram stains, and conduct rapid molecular testing including BioFire Torch panels and Cepheid assays
* Prepare and process specimens for routine and specialized laboratory testing
* Perform quality control, troubleshoot errors, and conduct preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments
* Operate specialized equipment including BD Kiestra, BD Bactec FX, BD Epicenter, BD Synapsys, Cepheid Infinity 48, Cepheid GeneXpert XVI, Biomerieux Torch, BD Phoenix M50, BD Phoenix AP, Bruker MALDI, BD MGIT 960, and Hologic Accuprobe
* Work across specialty areas including Bacteriology, AFB, and Mycology
* Communicate technical information to medical staff and other personnel
* Assist with training laboratory personnel in routine procedures
* Participate in continuing education and recognize normal and abnormal values
* Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
