Opportunity:
Central Sterile Processing Technician
Job Details:
* Create and manage surgical instrument assignments and communicate operational needs with OR charge nurse and practice leader
* Ensure smooth operation of necessary surgical instrumentation in perioperative services throughout the day
* Maintain CRCST certification and required continued education
* Assist supervisor with setting up continued education and in-services for the central sterile department
* Ensure proper operation of autoclave units prior to use on a daily basis
* Order daily supplies and maintain supply inventory
* Run biological and chemical tests at the beginning of each day shift and record results in appropriate logs
* Inspect gas and steam autoclaves for visible signs of malfunction and report findings to Central Sterile Supervisor
* Apply knowledge of sterilization principles to correctly wrap and package items for sterilization
* Process all items using ethylene oxide or steam sterilization methods
* Assist with processing department supply charges and related clerical work
* Apply aseptic techniques in daily work assignments and perform general cleaning of department areas
* Perform tray assemblage, proper packaging, and preparation of all applicable supplies for sterilization
* Monitor sterility dates on supplies
* Properly load, operate, and clean all sterilizers using biological and chemical control tests as required
* Restock patient care unit supply carts and reconcile charges as necessary
* Clean all forms of scopes by hand and utilize the medivator process for high-level disinfection
* Participate in departmental performance improvement activities
* Minimum of 6 months experience in central sterile processing required
* Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification required
* High school diploma or equivalent required
* Must demonstrate strong work ethic and knowledge of standards set forth by the IAHCSMM
* Must possess superb interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively
* Physical requirements include exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and frequently reaching, handling, and stooping
