Opportunity:

Laboratory Technologist (MLT or MT)

Job Details:

* Perform tasks, duties, and complex tests in all areas of the laboratory including hematology, immunohematology, immunology, bacteriology, microscopy, routine chemistry, and therapeutic drug monitoring
* Perform phlebotomies including arterial punctures, capillary punctures, and venipunctures applying age-specific criteria as appropriate
* Process specimens utilizing established protocols and technical knowledge
* Calibrate, standardize, and maintain instruments following established procedures
* Perform quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting protocols to ensure proper functioning of instruments and reagents
* Prepare and maintain reagent supplies necessary to perform tests
* Validate and report test results accurately and in a timely manner
* Assist in the maintenance and development of laboratory policy and procedural manuals
* Assist with orientation and teaching of students and new employees
* Follow established safety practices including biohazard protocols, exposure control plan, infection control, and chemical hygiene standards
* Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds independently
* Visual acuity correctable to 20/20 and color vision required
* Must be able to function in limited space with frequent interruptions and adapt to day-to-day temperature variations
* Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology or related area of specialty required
* Certification/registration or certification/registry eligibility as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician required (AMT or ASCP)
* Strong verbal and written communication skills required
* Reliable attendance and punctuality required, including willingness to extend scheduled shifts when necessary to meet patient demands

Facility:

This community hospital laboratory operates under the supervision of a Laboratory Manager and is responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory tests to support physician diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of diseases. The facility maintains high standards for quality assurance and equipment maintenance, and supports a comprehensive Quality Improvement Program. The laboratory handles waived, moderate, and high complexity testing and is committed to providing accurate and timely results in support of exceptional patient care.
